SC57 speedometer wires

  • Hoping english is OK, my german is best suited for ordering beer when visiting Harzen :)
Need to know what wire goes to what pin in the connector that goes into the gauges.
Anyone have a layout or photo of the connector with the wires exposed enough to identify the color-codes?

    Would help a lot :)

  • second collum are the colours in german, hopefully you can figure it out.

  • Hoping you can shed some light over this, I've wired the following so far, and it gives me:

    Turn indicators
    Oil pressure warning
    HI Beam
    Display
    Display lightning
    Speed

But I'm not getting a response on the tacho? Is it dependent on something that I left out?
Not sure what 10. Dauerplus 12V von Sicherung F translates to? Display is already lighting up so what does the extra 12V do?

    I've wired up:
    1. Neutralanzeige
    2. Masse für Beleuchtung
    3.
    4. Masse für Anzeige
    5.
    6. Geschwindigkeitsignal
    7. +12V über Zündung von Sicherung C für Instrumentbeleuchtung
    8. +12V über Zündung von Sicherung C für Anzeige
    9.
    10.
    11.
    12.
    13. Anzeige Fernlicht (+)
    14. Anzeige Blinker links (+)
    15. Öldruckanzeige (-)
    16.
    17. Anzeige Blinker rechts (+)
    18.
    19.
    20.

  • Dauerplus 10 : means steady plus from fuse F
You need it for the clock.

    3 are the revs

    5 cooling temp

    16 for immobilizer Hiss

    18 Fi failure indicator

19 HESD (Honda Electronic Steering Damper)

    20 reserve

6 is for your speedo, but you might have problems with the wiring to the sensor, need to check if there is signal

  • F is just one of the 10 amp fuses. In order from A-F.

  • Thank you for explaining 10.
I'm trying to wire this onto a VTR1000SP, so it is trial and error.

Hoping the tacho is possible, I've wired up the 3. Pin, but didn't do anything. I was hoping it was dependant on something else that I hadnt wired yet.

Do you know what kind of signal it is?

  • Pin 3 ist the RPM (revolutions per minute) signal for the rev counter it cames usually from the motor control unit
The signal has 2 pulses per motor revolution

Grüße aus dem Altmühltal, Chris :biker:

  • 3 is for the revolutions as above. Signal comes from the ECU.

  • The VTR ECU might be different.

    Good luck.

  • So I've gone a bit further

Everything seems to be working, except RPM.
I've looked around a noticed people have fitted all kind of Fireblade (including SC57) and RC51 clusters on their Firestorms without issues, so surely this should work too? I mean, if both a SC57 and SP1 cluster works on a Firestorm, the SC57 should work on the SP1?

    Any recommendations what/how to check?
The needle goes to max and back to zero when bike is powered on, so guess that means the tacho itself is working?

I can measure a slight voltage (0.01-0.02) across pin 18-19 (tacho and negative) when the bike is running? But it just a multimeter, it is probably struggling with so many pulses.

I've wired as below, looking into the back of the clusters.

  • This is a bit confusing now. RPM is supposed to be on pin number 3 from the ECU. I don't understand your new assigments in your excel sheet since 18 and 19 normally refer to FI an the HESD.

Ok I understand yout sheet now, but ground for the rpm should be your 17 refers to old 4. However you are right, you won't be able to see that signal on your meter. The signal should be there anyway. Hmm strange. To make sure you can only verify with a scope.

Make sure that your sensor ground is connected on 17.

  • I've come a bit further - my SP is apparently sending a 5V signal not a 10V or 12V signal that I understand the CBR wants (I've seen the tacho work on a VTR1000F which is sending a 12V pulse).

Soooo, has anyone taken a oscilloscope to the tacho on the SC57 or similar? Need to figure out if the pulses are identical, except for the voltage, which could then be fixed with a converter.

  • I haven't checked that, but I'm pretty sure that the signal shape shoud be identical. If it really matters, yeah you can easily amplify to the higher threshold.
